So back in New York we are!
Here are some of the pics from the second building:
And of two of the mock-ups:
I’ll update as things move along 🙂
Well now, my favorite time of year is rolling around and man are there a lot of things just hanging up in the air lol There’s so much going on right now, I don’t really know where to begin. I suppose the most important thing that’s happening design-wise is that I am buying my first home! It started more as a silly suggestion by a friend and then it began to take it’s own shape and the weight and inertia of it just sucked me in………..to my first home haha. But what I’m truly excited about is the opportunity to learn so many different skills when it comes to decor and upgrades. Tile? Yes please? Flooring installation? I’ve got this. There are so many different components that I am all-too-excited to get my hands in on 😀
…Unfortunately, it will have to wait until sometime mid-January–since the house won’t be finished being built until then. Sigh. But I have a lot to look forward to–an spacious, open floorplan, an immense backyard (Hello OUTDOOR DESIGN).
So much. So little time. A lot to look forward to and a lot to do. I will try to update more periodically 🙂
Oh, and I’ve also completed an 11-mile obstical course and I’ve started running on the weekends. This whole year has been a journey of self improvement, both of the mind and the body. I’ll see you all soon!
As always there’s been a lot going on. The new job I acquired in May has been amazing and still is–and I now have one more technical certification down. In addition to that, I’ve now learned how to mount a TV to the wall–a feat I’ve shied away from attempting for some time–but I am more than pleased with the results:
Also, one of my dearest friends is moving to New York in about a month to pursue her dreams of essentially building her own empire (lol–but no, seriously, she is). And while I am staying behind here in the City of Sins, I am more than keen to continue work on building my own. So far the results are optimistic and the journey is definitely turning out to be quite entertaining among other things.
I’ll be in Dallas the last week of this month and probably in California soon after. But I need the break lol.. things are definitively beginning to bubble up. Events feel as though they are culminating in something substantially life-altering. In a good way. I just hope I am capable of weathering the change. And I do hope there will be time for more freelance/consulting work in the near future. There are quite a few prospects already lined up 🙂
Things are about to get quite interesting.
But I am looking forward to it.
I googled the word, “cute,” and this is was Google threw in my face.
Touche Google. Touche.
With that in mind, I felt it was important to provide at least some indication of the number of things going on at the moment. Design work is still great–and I’ve made some huge life choices as well. I left my (currently former) job for the opportunity to try something new and I’m also several steps closer to graduation. Yay!
The thing about the job is that the choice to leave it was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in a very long time. I loved my job. It was great. And the people there were great, too. But I had been there a while at that point..and an opportunity came up that I just could not forgive myself for if I had turned it down without at least seeing where it might go.
At this point, I’ve concluded my third week and I am still very happy with the decision. Scary, but worth it.
And there are a lot of exciting things on the horizon. They’re surprises for now, but I will seek to keep this site updated a bit more regularly lol.
Until then!
So things have been going fantastically at work–I even got my own office! It was quite barren and empty to begin with, and there were harsh, lifeless overhead fluorescent bulbs, but with a little work, things turned out a whole lot better.
The only requirements were that the two original chairs, the bookcase and the file cabinet remain (company policy), so I had to work around those.
Things that made the biggest difference:
In May of 2014 I received the breakthrough opportunity of a lifetime: to be flown to New York to redesign a Psychiatrist’s office. It was my first large-scale design job, and really, the job where I learned the most about time management, negotiation, vendor management, all-nighters and what it really takes to get the job done.
2 weeks, 10 sleepless nights (we works as much as we could around the hours of the practice), and a new floor later, the job was finished! At the end of it all, the design was a success and the owner, Dr. Francis Hayden, loved the work. I’ve follow up on multiple occasions in the days since, and the staff report that patients find the mood calm and relaxing and that the response from patients and other staff in the building has been overwhelmingly positive.
I am so glad to have been able to be a part of this project. Dr. Hayden takes great pride in the time and effort he puts into improving his community, and I am happy to have assisted him in his endeavors.
